VACANCY:

HEALTH & SAFETY OFFICER

The SA Metal Group has a vacancy for a committed, hardworking and motivated individual to join the Health & Safety team to drive Health and Safety initiatives and programmes in the scrap metal and waste management operations of the company. This position requires a dynamic, flexible personality, who is able to work in a diversified and fast paced environment. The incumbent will be stationed in Cape Town and will be required to travel between branches and of site operations in the Western Cape.

QUALIFYING CRITERIA:

-         Grade 12 or equivalent

-         National Diploma or Certificate in Safety Management or equivalent

-         Current Computer Literacy in MS Word, Excel and Outlook

-         5 - 8 years' experience in a production environment including heavy vehicle transport

-         Excellent communication skills

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

 

         The incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to:

-         Ensure compliance with Company safety regulations and adherence to safety standards, including safety induction and training

-         Develop an infrastructure to ensure adherence to the health and safety policy and procedures

-         Create safety manuals and develop training programmes to enhance safe working conditions

-         Review and update Emergency Procedures as and when necessary

-         Conduct surveys and audits as required identifying and minimizing the risk to company and employees

-         Identify unsafe acts, conditions, and hazards, investigate root causes and identify corrective and preventative actions

-         Conduct workplace Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments

-         Design and implement responses to the above mentioned HIRA's

-         Inspect the place of work to determine whether any machinery, plant, equipment, substance, appliances or process is of such nature liable to cause bodily injury to any person working in the place of work

-         Investigate any accident, near-miss accident, dangerous occurrence, occupational poisoning or occupational disease that occurred in the place of work

-         Design and implement responses to these to minimise or prevent a recurrence
