VACANCY:
HEALTH & SAFETY OFFICER - GAUTENG
Large scrap metal processing and trading company requires a committed, hardworking and motivated individual to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for travelling between branches in Gauteng.
Applicants must have the following qualifying criteria:
- Grade 12
- National Diploma or Certificate in Safety Management or equivalent
- Computer Literate
- At least 5 years safety experience in a similar industry
- Previous experience in the Mining Sector SHE Standards an advantage
- Previous experience in Safety Procedures and Regulations regarding the handling of Hazardous Substances with particular reference to radioactive material and Asbestos would be advantageous
- Must have unendorsed drivers licence as well as reliable vehicle to be able to travel between the various branches in Gauteng
- Proficiency in Zulu would be advantageous
- Excellent communication skills
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Ensure compliance with Company safety Policies and Regulations
- Ensure adherence to Company safety standards, including basic safety induction and training
- Implement and coordinate the overall Health and Safety initiatives and systems, including direct engagement with Senior Management, the Company Safety Manager and the H&S Committee
- Help develop and implement systems to ensure that the Company and all employees are compliant with all relevant legal safety requirements
- Review and update Emergency Plans and Procedures as and when necessary
- Conduct workplace Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments
- Design and implement responses to the above mentioned HIRA's
- Investigate accidents, near-miss incidents, dangerous occurrences, or occupational diseases that may occur in the place of work
- Design and implement responses to these to minimise or prevent a recurrence
- Help develop training programmes to enhance safe working conditions
